Practice: How Businesses Make Money
Fifteen scored problems on business models, margins, market share, competitive advantages, the sources of growth, and business risk, worked on a fictional company.
What you'll do
This set works through the first module of Part 3 on a new company, Pine Ridge Cycles. You'll match business models to how they earn money, walk its revenue down to gross, operating, and net margins, calculate its market share and whether it's gaining or losing ground, name the advantage behind five examples, split its growth into volume and price, and sort the risks it faces. Each answer comes with the working, and your score appears as you go. Nothing is recorded outside this browser.
This draws on
Work through the problems in order and check each answer once you've committed to it. The score counts your first try. Pine Ridge Cycles and every other company here are fictional.
The problems in this practice set are for members
Inside, each with a worked answer: How the money comes in (1 problem); From revenue to profit (5 problems); The market it sells into (3 problems); Where the growth came from (3 problems); What could go wrong (3 problems).
